100 participants recruited to BALLOON!
We reached a fantastic milestone last Friday with our 100th baby recruited into the BALLOON trial! A huge thank you to all of our participating sites, hard-working trial staff, and the families who have contributed to this milestone.
Recruitment update
We have had 12 babies recruited this month, thank you to all the staff who are working hard to recruit to BALLOON.
Opening of two new sites
We are pleased to announce the opening of two additional trial sites: Scunthorpe General Hospital and Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital. Thank you to all involved for your hard work and collaboration in making this possible. We look forward to working with the teams as recruitment moves forward.
Publication of trial protocol
Congratulations to the entire trial team on the successful publication of the trial protocol in the BMJ Open. Recruitment milestone and new site

First recruitment and 3 new sites
Congratulations to Queen Alexander Hospital who having only opened yesterday, are happy to report that they have already recruited the first baby! We're also pleased to announce the addition of two more sites to the trial that are now open to recruitment, Medway Maritime Hospital and Southmead Hospital.
BALLOON open to recruitment
BALLOON opened to recruitment in March 2025. Our first three sites Hull Royal Infirmary, University Hospital of Wales and Royal Victoria Infirmary are now open to recruitment. We hope to see more sites joining very soon.
